UNIVERSITY GROUP PROJECT

THE
BIOSPHERE

A fully-fledged museum exhibition for the Melbourne Museum - teaching participants about invasive species, and the role they play throughout 3 distinct Australian ecosystems.

The Biosphere is a fully-fledged museum exhibition for the Melbourne Museum.

Participants interact with the full-scale touch screens and learn about invasive species and the role they play throughout 3 distinctively Australian environments (rainforest, desert, and coral reef.)

Creation of 2D and 3D Assets

My role in the group was creating the majority of the 2D assets in the environment, using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects.

I also created the environment art, animating all the assets together and creating 3 cohesive environments in AE.

Finally, I also created the 3D mockup in Blender, to create a tangible 3D demonstration of the exhibit in action.

Using Interactivity to Educate

Interactivity is at the core of the Biosphere exhibit - we wanted to use the power of gamification to educate audiences on the complexities of invasive species.

Audiences participate towards a common goal, trying to identify as many invasive and native species as possible; a process that educates them on the oftentimes deceptive nature of invasive flora and fauna.

Researching Native and Invasive Species

Researching key species in the 3 environments was paramount to creating the trio of immersive and engaging biomes.

This research ultimately informed the assets and animations created for the final product, culminating in the 3D mockup seen at the top of this page.

Our research also included measurements and technical specifications for the museum space - intended to create a room large enough to be immersive and fit many audience members at a time.
